Our DipC girl of the month is Viv Osondu
Viv Osondu on Femininity, self-growth and GIRLSTRIP!

Could you tell us a bit about your background—where you’re from and where you’re living today?
I’m a Igbo babe! Nigerian-born, Irish-raised, and now London-based. I currently live in Hackney. Although I grew up in the Midlands of bum fuck nowhere Ireland in the early 2000s where there were not many Black families, as you can imagine this really shaped who I am as a person. Then I moved to Catford, South London when I was 14. I lived all over South until about two years ago before making the classic London creative move to East London.
What current projects or passions are you focusing on right now?
Right now, one of my main focuses is on Girlstrip, which has become my biggest passion project. I’m working on it with my incredible business partner, Darcie. Together, we’re building a creative agency and discovery platform that’s girls first, but not girls only. There’s so much more to come with it, think brand campaigns, mentoring/upskilling, events and parties and it’s something I feel really proud of. Stay tuned #GIRLSTRIP
Alongside that, I work as a creative consultant, social strategist and content creator, helping brands/people grow massively and connect with their target audiences. I also give everyone the fear by shoving my mic in their face and asking silly questions. But fr though I’m building out my skills as an interviewer big time. I love conversations and talking and getting to the bottom of things, whether it’s with artists, designers, celebrities, or just people on the street and honestly, I love that, but next year we’re going for longer and having more in-depth interviews.

What aspects of womanhood do you find most powerful and affirming?
For me, womanhood itself is the most powerful thing. Like why on earth would a man be there? I feel most affirmed when I’m surrounded by other girls. I grew up in a household full of women, my mam and my three sisters, so female energy has always been central to my life. My friendships with my girls (and jeff ily bestie) have shaped me; there’s something so grounding about knowing other women are looking out for you, and you’re doing the same for them.
I also feel really empowered by being a career-driven woman. I often think about the generations of women before me who didn’t have the same opportunities. Like I’m my ancestors’ wildest dreams right now. I get to work, travel, and create a life that feels fully mine. That freedom and that sense of ownership over my life make me feel powerful every single day.

In what ways has your understanding of womanhood changed over time?
When I was younger, I didn’t really think about what it meant to be a girl, it just felt like something I happened to be. As I’ve grown older, I’ve realised it’s a kind of superpower you can’t fully describe, you just feel it and just know it.
I remember the moment I started feeling like a woman and not a girl, it was when I made a really difficult decision to leave my teenage sweetheart and choose myself instead. It was soo painful, but it marked the start of my independence and self-growth. It made me feel like one of those sexy women you see in films or read about who take a massive leap for their own good.
I know that feeling will keep evolving as I grow. Maybe one day I’ll feel it again when I become a mother, or even later when I’m older, passing wisdom down to younger women. I already feel that sense of purpose with the girls i mentor now, it’s a womanly feeling to help someone else grow. It’s just a feeling man, I don’t know what else to tell you.
How did you feel in your Becky set?
It’s one of those moments where you look in the mirror and think, yeah, SMASH. I felt leng asf. Like smoking hot, confident, strong, like I need Bella Hadid to see me right now.
What helps you feel your most confident and self-assured?
I feel my most confident when I’m seeing the fruits of my labour. My friends always say I have strong intuition and I’m scarily good at manifesting what I want, and I really believe that. I visualise where I want to be, I pray on it and I make it happen.
I didn’t grow up with much, and everything I have now I’ve literally built for myself, which is insane. That gives me confidence because I’ve been knowing I can rely on me and God only. Knowing I have my own back makes me feel grounded and unstoppable.
